As I prepare to leave the country, I have decided to try and sell a few paintings. This one, entitled Desert Blossom, has seen me through the most difficult years of my life. I painted this years and years ago before I ever really knew what it meant or how it would minister to me.
My friend Anneli and I were putting together an art show during Lent at Imago Dei Community. We asked a group of artists to choose a Lenten prayer that resonated with them. I chose the following:
Dear Lord, we are now in the holy season of Lent.
We begin to realize anew that these are the days of salvation, these are the acceptable days.
We know that we are all sinners. We know that in many things we have all offended Your infinite majesty. We know that sin destroys Your life in us as a drought withers the leaves and chokes the life from the land, leaving an arid, dusty desert.
Help us now, Lord, in our feeble attempts to make up for past sin. Bless our efforts with the rich blessing of Your grace. Help us to see, in our ordinary difficulties and duties, in the trials and temptations of every day, the best opportunity for Your grace.
Every day we are so often reminded in field and wood, in sky and stream, of Your own boundless generosity to us. Help us to realize that You are never outdone in generosity, and that the least thing we do for You will be rewarded, full measure, pressed down, shaken together, and flowing over.
Then we shall see, in our own souls, how the desert can blossom, and the dry and wasted land can bring forth the rich, useful fruit that was expected of it from the beginning.
I chose a prophetic prayer. It spoke of the dry and wasted land that I would walk through. It also spoke of overflowing grace and of God’s generosity even in the midst of the wasteland. It painted an image of a desert blossom; something beautiful birthed out of struggle and grief. This painting is one of my favorites because it is so true.
As I prepare and plan for my journey, I have decided to sell this painting to contribute to the preparations I am making to embark on my GREAT ADVENTURE. It is rendered in watercolor/watercolor pencil and matted in off-white with glass and a uniframe. Its total dimension is 26 1/2″ square. If you are interested in purchasing it, please contact me or message me on Facebook.
